2025 - The Year of the Podcast

Podcasts have been around for seemingly forever, but their popularity has grown exponentially in recent years. Starting a podcast can be very low-cost way to reach large audiences. They are also a way to build authenticity of your brand or business.

Consuming long-form media was made far more convenient with the invention of the podcast. Instead of sifting through lengthy written information, consumers can multi-task while getting that information via podcast.

Nearly half of all Americans have reported listening to a podcast within the last year. And a large number of them stated that they listen to podcasts as a way to entertain themselves as they do other things.

This opens up an opportunity for businesses to enter into the podcast space. Doing so would allow you to foster relationships with your audience and build rapport.

Although ‘podcast’ was the official word of the year in 2005, we’re declaring 2025 as the year of the podcast. Named after the iPod, podcasts originally were primarily used by organizations like PBS and BBC to release short segments based on their programs. The past 20 years have seen exponential growth in both the breadth of podcast topics, as well as the number of listeners.

Whether you get your business involved in producing its own podcast, collaborate as a guest on an existing podcast, or buy ad spots, there are opportunities to enter into the podcast space. The production value of a podcast can be as low-cost or as expensive as you make it. At the bare minimum, the only equipment needed is a recording device. However, you can easily rack up the costs for mics, high quality recording equipment, and editing software.

If you want to get into recording a podcast for yourself or your business, Neat Media conveniently has a podcasting studio available for rent.
